Well, it did not take me to long to figure out that I was just damaging my free-weights as well as my garage floor.  Guess what, the boss (my wife) made her feelings very apparent.

Now, not only were my barbells chipped and I was starting to crack my garage floor, my wife wasn't so happy about my work-outs. So, I gave up, I had to get some rubber mats (This was before I started at Rubber-Cal, so I actually paid for them.) They helped protect my weights, as well as my floor. I mean, not only did the sound of the weighs hitting the floor decreased, so did my wife's screams at me. I think my wife was happier than I was. If you want to make an area into a gym, use some rubber flooring over the sub-surface. Trust me you and your wife will appreciate it.

Working out on a cement floor really puts some wear and tear on both equipment and the floor. And let me tell ya, these days gym equipment isn't cheap. In my opinion, a rubber floor is something that should be put down under any workout equipment. Rubber flooring should be considered part of the equipment, and an inexpensive way to protect your investments (gym equipment) and your floors.  Rubber flooring also adds that extra feel to the room which carpet or concrete don't.  Carpet is easily damaged, and cement or concrete are too cold and not so cozy.  Another important feature that is saved by the rubber flooring is one's rear end, when doing sit-ups or stretching.  Half the time I workout by myself, and I don't have anyone to spot me. Sometimes when I can't handle dead-lifts, I have had to drop them.
