Primarily, of course, this sort of mat is intended to protect the sub-floor against damage from the treadmill itself. Obviously, this is done through the thickness of the mat. On the flip side, the rubber flooring also protects the treadmill from potential damage against the subsurface. Treadmill mats (Shark Tooth Mats) are commonly seen in areas where sound and/or vibration reduction is a factor (for example, second floor apartments, wood floors, etc.). However, the majority of these functions could also be accomplished as part of a complete flooring solution (Elephant Bark Flooring or (Eco-Sport Tiles), provided the thickness of the rubber flooring was comparable. So why is a single area mat preferred to a larger flooring venture? |
