What is a Man Cave? Batman has the 'Bat Cave' and Superman has the 'Fortress of Solitude'. Regular guys start with tree forts, cardboard box houses, and eventually move on to bigger and better equipped man-caves. Men are tired of wandering in the wild (i.e. the rat race), they need a place to recoup, rejuvenate, and re-scream feelings of masculinity. A man cave is the locale for this patriarchal and spiritual reinvigoration. The man cave is the longing to recoup some of the masculine ego. Dingy basements, cold garages, a den, or even an oversized mud room, the man cave is a designated area in a home for all things mannish or, boyish. "Man Caving" has even become a home buying criteria, buyers are looking for homes that have a personal, dedicated space for one person in a household. Upscale garages and basements are now an amenity of choice for homebuyers.
Television's DIY Network has a special airing this spring, "Man Caves," featuring Tony "The Goose" Siragusa, a former NFL player whose colorful afterlife includes stints as a game-day on-air commentator, host of a big-time party Super Bowl weekend, restaurateur, and ribs aficionado. In Siragusa's outsized description, a man cave is no place for anyone but, well, a real man. "Women have taken over the rest of the house. We're teaching guys how to create their own spaces," he said. "If you're the kind of guy who gets pedicures, we're not coming to your house. The man cave is a true man's space and the décor is non negotiable." In one episode, Rubber-Cal's Eco-Sport tiles deck the floor of a Hoboken Fire Department's man cave. The rubber floor is the perfect animal to weather the man cave's difficult conditions. It is affordable, soft enough to rest the weary man-caver, tough enough that it can be cleaned with almost any household tool, and it is easy enough to install that it could be by even the least screw driver friendly man. The increase in upscale man caves may be due to the rise of the do-it-yourself movement, and introduction of state-of-the-art electronics, such as plasma screens and souped-up appliances like personal vending machines.
Mythologized in beer commercial, the man cave is a place where guys are free to smoke cigars, yell at the TV, and be left alone! The man cave may even include a place to workout. But the bottom line is that, there is a physical separation between the men and everyone else (kids, women, etc) Rubber-Cal flooring is tough enough to handle any of the above man cave mischievous behaviors.
