Coin pattern flooring is a versatile flooring option that is ideal for both industrial and commercial use. Different materials coin flooring is available in allows it to be used in almost all settings. A mixture of rubber and vinyl materials give coin grip flooring added durability, strength and moisture resistant properties. There are many added benefits to installing coin grip flooring in your industrial or commercial spaces including added non-slip assurance, easy cleaning and maintenance and a modern aesthetic the coin-grip pattern offers.

Benefits of Coin Pattern Flooring

Coin pattern flooring offers excellent traction and slip-resistance which can be a beneficial addition in most commercial and industrial settings. Compared to other surface pattern, the studded surface pattern offers more of a modern aesthetic. The raised surface of the coin grip flooring provides extra grip for traditional flooring options. Each raised coin-shaped circle acts as extra gripping points for your shoes to effectively grip onto for added surface traction. A coin floor is extremely versatile being able to be used both indoors and outdoors depending on the raw materials used, rubber or vinyl.

Types of Coin Pattern Flooring

There are two types of material coin pattern flooring is available in: rubber and PVC. Rubber studded flooring is generally made out of thermoplastic rubber which gives them added durability, traction and chemical and abrasion resistant properties. Both rubber and PVC coin flooring are ideal for areas that experience heavy foot traffic since both are durable materials. Each material comes with their own set of unique characteristics that are tailored to perform specific functions and protect against certain damaging forces.

Rubber Coin Flooring

Rubber naturally has a high coefficient of friction which gives rubber exceptional traction retaining abilities even when exposed to moisture. Therefore, rubber flooring in general is non-slip but, adding a coin-grip surface pattern will enhance rubber’s natural characteristics. With the addition of the studded surface pattern, there is that added assurance of better grip and less opportunities for slip and fall accidents to occur. Rubber studded flooring can be used interchangeably indoors and outdoors due to the fact that rubber is moisture resistant and resistant to damaging weather patterns. Generally, rubber coin flooring will be made out of thermoplastic rubber which gives the rubber a stronger and more durable structure.

Compared to natural rubber, “thermoplastic elastomers has a place within a class of copolymers or a physical blend of polymers (typically plastic and elastic) which are comprised of the materials with both elastomeric and thermoplastic properties, that is the reason they are otherwise called thermoplastic rubbers…traditional elastomers can’t give the scope of physical properties required for the item, where thermoplastic elastomers are utilized” (sciencedirect.com). This means thermoplastic rubber gives coin flooring the characteristics of both rubber and plastic allowing them to be used for a wider variety of purposes. This makes thermoplastic rubber stud flooring more versatile and durable against factors natural rubber cannot withstand. Because of this, rubber stud flooring made out of Thermoplastics longer life when in contact with the elements or household chemicals. In addition, rubber studded flooring has more pliability which translates to better comfort. Since rubber flooring is generally thicker, they are able to offer more anti-fatigue qualities.

Vinyl Coin Pattern Flooring

Vinyl, also known as Polyvinyl chloride (or PVC), is “a thermoplastic having good resistance to alkalis, salts, and highly polar solvents, and is flame retardant due to the presence of chlorine in the structure (sciencedirect.com). Due to vinyl’s composition, vinyl coin pattern flooring is a versatile flooring option for industrial settings and for garage or basement flooring where it can come into contact with car oils and common household chemicals rubber is not able to withstand; however, vinyl’s composition does not allow for outdoor use as the colors will fade. Unlike rubber studded flooring, vinyl flooring is also available in a metallic finish as well which offers a metal-like look that is generally sought after in industrial setting or in garages. A metallic or reflective floor will offer more safety for industrial settings and garages since these are places that do not receive much lighting. Since vinyl is a thinner material, vinyl stud flooring is not as comfortable as rubber stud flooring. Despite this, vinyl is also extremely abrasion resistant and the added coin-grip surface pattern gives vinyl flooring extra slip resistant properties. Although moisture will not damage the surface of your vinyl coin grip flooring, vinyl will not retain its traction as well as rubber when wet but, the studded surface pattern will help keep your feet firmly planted on the floor with each step.

Traction for Safety: Slipping and falling is the main reason for accidents in the workplace. Provide safety wherever you are placing this anti-slip flooring due to its traction. Coin shaped protrusions stick out of this product in such a way to provide better grip between the flooring and feet during high volumes of foot traffic. Such an intense friction is good for preventing slips and falls, making this flooring excellent for safety and ADA approval.

Good for Many Applications: Both durable and safe, coin flooring can be placed in a variety of applications. They are incredibly popular for gyms and industrial work places, just to name a few. Their traction makes them good for places where people are likely to slip or fall, such as a facility with a pool. Being a tough material, this anti-slip flooring is great for any place that might suffer from physical abrasions such as garages.

Forms of Coin Pattern Flooring

As mentioned earlier, studded flooring is available in two different materials, rubber and vinyl, but they are also available in two different forms: pre-cut and custom cut. Rubber studded flooring is the only studded flooring material that offers pre-cut flooring in different sizes. Rubber stud flooring is available in six different lengths, 25 feet, 10 feet, 8 feet, 6 feet, 5 feet and 4 feet, with the width of 36 inches. The wide variety of different factory-cut lengths allows you to choose which length of rubber stud flooring best fits the space you are trying to cover. Studded flooring made out of vinyl are available in the form of 50-foot rolls or custom cut lengths up to 50 feet. This makes it easier to customize the size of the vinyl studded rolls to the size of the space you wish to cover.

How to Install Coin Grip Flooring

Installing both rubber and vinyl coin grip flooring is easy and simple enough for anyone to do on their own. There are two type of adhesives that are ideal for installing floors: double-sided tape and glue. Depending on the conditions your flooring will experience should determine which method is best for your specific situation. For a less permanent application, it is recommended to use double-sided tape. This method is also ideal for indoor flooring since there is less of a chance the tape will be exposed to excessive amounts of moisture and it also makes for easy removal and replacement in case of damage. Glue installations, on the other hand, are meant to be permanent. This method is recommended for areas that receive heavy foot traffic and is ideal for outdoor use where the glue is unaffected by outside weather conditions.

How to Maintain Coin Grip Flooring

Cleaning and maintaining your coin grip flooring is just as easy as installing it, if not easier! Since both rubber and vinyl are impervious to water damage, you may simply take a hose and spray your floors down. If there is no need for something as powerful as a hose, you may also take a dry rag or mop to sweep away any loose dirt or debris. Since most rubber stud flooring is made of thermoplastic rubber instead of other more natural rubber variation, it can also withstand most mild household chemical cleaners. Vinyl can also withstand most household chemical cleaners; however, vinyl coin grip flooring is slightly more chemical resistant than thermoplastic rubber flooring and can benefit more from mild chemical cleaning agents.

A coin floor is a common sight in many industrial or commercial spaces and places of work. Coin pattern flooring is one of the most common industrial and commercial non-slip flooring options available on the market. Its composition of either thermoplastic rubber or vinyl make them impervious to damage caused by moisture and durable enough to be used both indoors and outdoors. Rubber’s natural characteristics are enhanced by the stud surface pattern and with the addition of thermoplastic rubber’s characteristics. With the ease of installation and maintenance, coin pattern flooring is one of the most recommended flooring options for versatile situations.
