Industrial Rubber

What Is an Industrial Rubber Product and What Is It Used For?

Three Rolls of Conveyor Belt Rubber Sheet with Various Dimensions

Industrial and commercial rubbers come in many forms and are purposed towards even more applications. But perhaps the most common form of it is industrial rubber product. Industrial sheet rubber that comes in large sheets and rolls. These sheets can be cut into virtually any shape and any size, fulfilling the needs of any application that calls for the use of a “two dimensional” product, meaning that only its length and width are important, making the actual thickness of the material negligible. To make a three-dimensional product requires complex molding processes, so when you buy rubber, make sure that the company which you purchase it from can provide those services to you. In any case, sheets and rolls are highly desired for their broader range of applications, as they can be easily cut by hand by consumers and manufacturers alike, as well as cut by the companies themselves using die or laser-based techniques. Regardless of how it is cut, you will find that these sheets and rolls are incredibly important for the functions that they serve, so take a look for yourself!

Just what is industrial rubber product used for? The following is a non-exhaustive but useful list of its many functions:

Crossover Pads: During large construction projects, there is bound to be electrical wiring and large vehicles involved. Because both of these things need to be unrestricted in their placement and movement, protection is needed for the wiring to allow large vehicles to safely cross over it. Industrial rubber products work great for this, being sturdy enough to withstand abrasive conditions and heavy foot traffic, all the while keeping wiring safe and functional.

Railroad Crossties: A large amount of freight in the United States is still transported using the railroads. In the century and a half that railroads have been around, there is no doubt that the tracks have needed replacement and repair over time. Now, long-lasting and durable commercial rubber is being used for railroad crossties, improving the safety of the railroads.

Lining: Elastomers come in various forms. Some of it is natural, some synthetic, and some recycled or reclaimed. This being the case, there is an assortment of properties which rubber products may or may not have. When you are going to buy rubber, make sure you are aware of its makeup so that you can also know which applications it will work best for. Different forms of elastomer will have different properties, such as specific chemical resistances, extreme temperature performance, and ozone resistance. Overall, this assortment of properties makes rubber a great lining for chutes, bins, mixers, and ducts that will see a plethora of substances.

Belting: Elastomers are great for making conveyor belts for places such as factories and grocery stores. But along with those belts come belt skirts, belt scrapers, and a variety of other rubber belting accessories. All of these things can be made from rubber sheets and rolls.

  • Custom lengths available of up to 50ft
  • Can be used as equipment floor mats
  • Can be used as either commercial or industrial floors
  • The textured underside of these horse trailer mats grips base surfacing
  • Perfect for use in temporary installations through the use of double-sided tape

Ribs Improve Traction: The presence of the wide corrugated ribs on these industrial floors helps keep you and your guests safe and secure by providing your feet with a better level of traction. Rubber comes with a high co-efficient of friction to begin with. When the natural rubber material is made to feature these wide ribs, the amount of grip their provide for your feet improves considerably. Buy these runner mats today to keep your area slip-free!

Best Surface Protection: Whether you need equipment floor mats for heavy objects or easy to install horse trailer mats, these rubber floor mats will help keep the base surfaces of your area safe from damage. The press of heavy equipment and even constant foot traffic can easily damage some surfaces. Wood is a prime example of this. Repairing these damages can be very costly. Eliminate the risk of unwanted expenses by putting this indoor and outdoor rubber mat in place.

Anti-vibration Pads: Generally, elastomers are great at absorbing shocks and vibrations. What this means is that rubber sheets can be cut into pads that serve as a protective layer between heavy-duty equipment or machinery and the surfaces they are placed on. These pads not only protect the ground surfaces (oftentimes made from cement or tile), but they also keep machinery from moving around and shaking from their own inner workings, keeping them safe and running smoothly.

Sound-proofing: Seeing as most elastomers work well at reducing vibrations, they also work well at containing sound. Sound is essentially the product of vibrations, and so when vibrations are kept to minimal amounts, sound is constrained as well. This makes them perfect for use in studios or other sound-sensitive applications.

Flooring and Matting: Many types of rubbers are designed to be slip-resistant, resistant to oils, greases, and other liquids, and can conform to applied pressures because of their flexibility. With these options, rubber makes for a great flooring alternative to tile, concrete, and hardwood floors. Rubber flooring is usually easier to clean, safer, and more comfortable than other types of flooring, making it ideal for workplaces where employees are standing or walking for extended periods.

Gaskets and Seals: Perhaps two of the most significant aspects of elastomers are their ability to provide padding and sealing for small and large mechanical parts. They are used to fill in space between free-floating parts and to seal pipes, preventing the dangerous leaks of gases and liquids.

While this list provides but eight common uses of industrial rubber product, you can be certain that there are many more particularized applications which commercial rubber can be purposed towards. Just make sure that when you buy rubber, it has the properties you desire and can be made into the shape which suits your needs!

Closed Cell Rubber – Blend

  • Temperature Range: -40 F to +200 F
  • Durometer rating of 20-25 Shore C
  • Sheets available in size of 39in by 78in
  • Ideal for use in shock absorption and gasket related applications
  • A versatile blend of closed cell sponge available at affordable rates

Moderate Weather Resistance: This closed cell sponge rubber benefits from the presence of Neoprene material since each sponge sheet is composed of Neoprene and SBR. A characteristic of Neoprene rubber is its good resistance to outdoor weathering effects such as UV rays and ozone. As a result, it is often employed wherever a rubber part is needed for the outdoors. This blended cellular rubber possesses a moderate degree of outdoor weather resistance.

A Durable Sponge Rubber: As a direct benefit from the SBR rubber used to make it, this closed cell sponge rubber possesses a good degree of physical durability. SBR is known for its superior physical strength and resistance to physical abrasions. It is the reason why SBR is so popular for use in vehicle tires, which are expected to endure harsh physical conditions on a daily basis. Although cellular rubber tends to be a softer material overall, especially when compared to its regular solid rubber counterparts, it is still durable enough to handle some moderate level physical abrasions.
