Rubber weight room flooring is a resilient flooring option that offers both surface protection and non-slip safety. Rubber weight training mats are available in two forms and in four rubber variations, making it easy for you to choose rubber weight room floors that are best suited for the size of your home gym. Additionally, thick gym mats are also available in numerous thicknesses for abrasive weightlifting stations. Furthermore, this padded gym flooring is a cost-effective flooring option not only by protecting expensive home flooring options, but also by being long-lasting flooring options. Best of all, rubber’s natural traction-enhancing surface helps improve grip and reduce chances of slips. Rubber weight room flooring will efficiently protect your existing home floors while also working to protect you from slip and fall accidents.

What is the Best Flooring for a Weight Room?

Rubber weight room flooring is the best flooring for a weight room due to its superior shock absorption, non-slip properties, and wide selection of gauges. Rubber is a highly elastic material that is often used for industrial shock absorbing applications, such as gaskets; however, this property also makes it ideal for weight room floors. Rubber’s elasticity refers to the stretching and returning to its original form without permanent deformation. Case in point, “It [rubber] has the ability to deform significantly by tension, compression, or torsion and then return to almost its original shape upon release…Due to the elastic properties, rubber store and return most of the input shock or vibrational energy resulting in reduction of the transmissibility” (journals.sagepub.com). This means rubber will absorb harmful damaging forces, preventing it from reaching the floors below the rubber surfacing. Not only will rubber weight room flooring provide resilient surface protection for home floors, but it will also provide protection for your fitness machines and equipment as well. Fitness machines produce constant vibrations that can eventually damage your floors and the machine itself when placed on hard surfaces and dropped weights can severely damage floors without the use of thick gym mats made of rubber. Additionally, rubber weight room flooring is a non-slip flooring option that retains a naturally grippy surface even when moisture is present. When weight training, it is important that you have secure footing to avoid dangerous slips and stumbles while using large and heavy weights. Rubber is a moisture resistant material that will retain its grippy surface thanks to its high coefficient of friction. Oftentimes, weight training mats are available with added surface patterns or textures that helps further enhance rubber’s natural grippy surface. Furthermore, rubber weight room flooring is available in a wide selection of thicknesses ranging from 3mm to 1” thick. Thinner rubber flooring can be used in light to medium-duty areas with lighter weights/dumbbells. On the other hand, thicker padded gym flooring is ideal for heavy-duty weight room flooring as it will provide a better and thicker barrier between the force of an impact and your sensitive home floor.

Is Gym Rubber Flooring Waterproof?

Gym rubber flooring is waterproof, allowing it to remain a traction-enhancing gym surfacing option even when moisture is present on its surface. Rubber is a naturally moisture resistant material that is often used for non-slip weight room floors. There are two types of rubber materials used to create rubber weight room flooring: tire derived and synthetic. The tire derived rubbers include recycled and reclaimed rubber – both of which are highly resistant to moisture. Made up of resilient weatherproof and abrasion resistant vehicle tires, recycled and reclaimed rubber are highly moisture resistant. Recycled rubber is made with ground up tire rubber that has been re-adhered into a solid material. Reclaimed rubber is made by melding shredded tire rubber together to form a solid material. Because reclaimed rubber uses heat to meld scrap rubber together, it is more moisture resistant than recycled rubber which is slightly porous. Additionally, the synthetic rubbers used to make rubber weight room flooring are SBR and thermoplastic rubber. SBR is a common synthetic rubber used in the composition of tires and it is an excellent outdoor material due to its moisture resistance. Due to its plastic and synthetic rubber composition, thermoplastic rubber weight room floors are also inherently moisture resistant. Not only does the moisture resistance of rubber gym floors make them a safer gym floor option, but it also makes is easier to clean and maintain.

“Diamond Plate” Roll Rubber Matting

  • Quality protection at an affordable rate
  • Easiest to install when you use double-sided tape
  • Features a textured backside that grips base surfaces
  • Excellent for use as an equipment floor mat garage flooring, warehouse flooring, factory mats, kennel mats for dogs, waterproof flooring, gym mats, shop mat, and much more

Designed for Traction: From the very beginning, the diamond plate mats are designed with safety in mind. The diamond pattern on these mats helps produce traction for the feet walking around on it. More traction means a far lower likelihood of slipping and falling. Each raised line of the pattern has a way of “gripping” feet. Diamond plate floor mats will provide enough resistance on all sides of the feet so as to keep them secure and upright.

Excellent Protection: Base flooring can be very vulnerable. Wood and tile can be degraded over time due to a high volume of foot traffic and/or the continued presence of heavy equipment. When these diamond plate floor mats are in place, they absorb the shock and pressure of heavy weights. They take the full force while preventing the surface beneath them from feeling it. If your area contains heavy equipment, floor mat options such as the “Diamond Plate” is essential to have around.

How Do You Reinforce a Gym Floor?

You can reinforce a gym floor by adding protective padded gym flooring made of rubber on top of it to add extra strength and protection. Home floors can be expensive to repair or refinish, so it is highly beneficial to reinforce your home gym floor with a rubber surface cover to prevent costly repairs. Common home flooring options, such as ceramic tile, can cost anywhere between $257 and $740 and others, like hardwood, can cost even more between $441 and $1,457 (homeadvisor.com). Thick gym mats made of rubber will help protect costly home flooring options which, in turn, will cut the cost of frequent repairs. Rubber is a shock absorbent material that will protect your home floors from impact damage. It is also abrasion resistant, meaning it will protect your floors from scrapes left by shifting or sliding fitness machines or equipment while they are in use. They retain a long life with slow wear and tear, saving you more in less frequent rubber floor replacements.

Weight training mats are designed to protect sensitive home floors from impacts and abrasions while also providing a grippy surface to prevent slip and fall accidents. Weight room floors must be made of thick gym mats due to the heavy impacts that are likely to occur. Rubber weight room flooring is made of either recycled rubber, reclaimed rubber, SBR, and thermoplastic rubber. Due to its elasticity, rubber is a highly shock absorbent and protective material that will provide ample padding gym flooring for home floor protection. Rubber is also a non-slip material, offering grippy surface for added non-slip safety. They are often available with traction-enhancing surface patterns and textures that add to rubber’s natural grippy surface. Rubber weight room flooring is a long-lasting and cost-effective flooring option for weight room floors thanks to its protective and safety capabilities.
