Rubber Snowplow Cutting Edges
Rubber cutting edges are a necessity for creating safe roadways when living in an area that experiences regular snowfall. Rubber cutting edges can prevent costly and potentially dangerous damage from occurring to the surfaces by covering the abrasive metal blade of a snowplow. Here at Rubber-Cal, we provide durable and affordable Skirtboard rubber plow blades that can handle the rigors of snowy conditions. In addition, not all snow plowing vehicles are the same size; therefore, our rubber plow parts are available for custom fabrication using specific measurements from the vehicle in question. Our snow plow parts are abrasion resistant, can handle broad temperature ranges, and possess an outstanding resistance to some chemicals, ozone, sunlight, and other adverse weather conditions.
What Are Rubber Cutting Edges Made Of?
Rubber cutting edges are made of a blend of natural rubber and styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) due to their durability, endurance in outdoor conditions and flexibility. SBR is an extremely useful synthetic elastomer that is known for making durable snow plow parts. When used as cutting edges, you benefit from SBR’s ability to resist moisture and withstand temperatures as low as -20° F. Rubber cutting edges are ideal for plowing surfaces that cannot be damaged for safety or aesthetics purposes. Since snow plow blades are generally made of metal, they can be detrimental to expensive driveways or cause damage to surfaces, such as airport runways, that may lead to safety concerns and hazards. Rubber cutting edges act as a barrier between the existing surface and the abrasive metal blades of snow plows to prevent costly and dangerous damages. Rubber snow plow parts are also impervious to water, making it especially effective when dealing with snow and slush. This also means these rubber cutting edges will not break down or degrade with constant fluid exposure. Additionally, our snow plow parts stand up well to other elements, such as UV rays and ozone. The rubber plow blades will spend most of their time in use outdoors, so they must use materials that can withstand the harsh, cold conditions. Another benefit of using snow plow parts made of rubber is that they offer a degree of flexibility. While our rubber snow plow blades are tough and durable, they also provide some flex. It is this quality that allows rubber plow blades to fit better to the contours of a street when in use, providing better plowing ability than metal snow plow blades.
How To Cut Rubber
All About: Rubber
Rubber Snowplow Cutting Edge 1500 PSI – 1″ x 6″
- Can operate in cold temperatures as low as -20° F
- Far quieter during operation than their metal blade counterparts
- Skirtboard rubber gives this snow plow rubber excellent resistance to weathering
High Tensile Strength: Tensile strength is defined as the amount of stress and pressure that a material can take before it fails or breaks. These plow parts have a tensile strength rating of 1500 PSI, which makes them very durable. They can take a higher level of abuse than their 725 PSI counterpart, which means that they are less prone to breaking. Although these are wear parts that will need to be replaced over time, their superior durability gives them a longer overall lifespan than other types of blades made from polyurethane. If you need tough snow plow rubber, then this product is the perfect choice for you!
Good for Commercial Use: These rubber plow parts are great for larger-scale commercial projects. They are popular for use in areas like highways, commercial strip centers, airport runways, and large parking lots. The existing surfaces of these areas are very important. They have to be as even as possible. Even a little bit of damage can compromise their safety or aesthetic value. This type of rubber cutting edge is perfect for these types of snowplow applications because the rubber is gentler on surfaces than metal and polyurethane blades. Although they are not meant to be outright replacements for the existing metal parts, they help to keep the metal away from sensitive surfaces.
What is Tensile Strength?
Tensile strength, often noted as PSI, determines how much physical stress or pressure a piece of rubber can handle without breaking or tearing. This is an important aspect to consider when purchasing snow plow parts especially when they will be used to plow over abrasive concrete or gravel surfaces. Damaged or torn rubber plow blades not only reduce the effectiveness of the plow, but it also can cause damage to the vehicle. Rubber-Cal recognizes that some rubber plow blades can experience harsher conditions than others; therefore, our rubber cutting edges are available in three different tensile strengths of 725 PSI, 1500 PSI and 2000 PSI. The higher the tensile strength, the more abrasion resistant the rubber cutting edges will be.
725 PSI Rubber Plow Blades
Rubber cutting edges of 725 PSI feature a decent level of flexibility, but are meant for lighter, residential use. The 725 PSI rubber cutting edges are made out of the SBR variation and, at 725 PSI, these rubber plow blades have a superb level of abrasion resistance perfect for light to medium-duty snow plowing at a lower price than rubber plow blades of higher tensile strengths. This level of PSI is generally used by homeowners on common passenger vehicles because it is durable enough to stay intact, but also elastic enough to be easily dragged over pricey concrete or cobblestone driveways and sidewalks without causing damage to their surfaces. It has a temperature range of -10 degrees Fahrenheit to 190 degrees Fahrenheit and are available in set gauges of 3/4-inch, 1-inch, 1.5 inches and custom gauges up to 2 inches thick. Additionally, there are five set widths of 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches; however, if these sizes do not fit for your particular situation, custom widths are available, upon request, up to 78 feet.
1500-2000 PSI Rubber Plow Blades
1500 PSI and 2000 PSI rubber cutting edges, unlike the 725 PSI cutting edges, are made using a blend of SBR and natural rubber materials. Rubber snow plow blades of these tensile strengths are much more durable than the 725 PSI blades and can be put to use in commercial and industrial areas. They are less prone to breaking or tearing than their 725 PSI counterpart, which means these rubber cutting edges can be used for plowing more abrasive surfaces found on highways, parking garages, airport landing strips and commercial strip centers. Furthermore, the 1500 PSI and 2000 PSI snow plow parts can handle higher temperature ranges from as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit to as high as 212 degrees Fahrenheit and are available in custom gauge thicknesses up to two inches thick. In addition to the wider temperature range, since commercial areas are generally larger, higher tensile strength rubber cutting edges are available in larger sizes with set widths of 6, 8 and 10 feet along with a customizable option up to 78 feet upon request.
Do Snow Plows Damage Driveways?
Generally, snow plow blades are made out of metal or other hard materials that tend to scrape and damage the surface of driveways or roads; however, rubber cutting edges will prevent such damage from occurring to driveways. Rubber is the ideal material to use for cutting edges because, despite its tough durability, it is soft enough to not damage the surfaces it is clearing. Not only do rubber plow blades protect the surface it is clearing, but it also works to protect the vehicle and other snow plow parts from damage. It ultimately acts as a barrier between the metal of the plow blades and the hard surfaces of a road or driveway. Rubber cutting edges, above all other materials, can prevent costly damages to a driveway or damages to a vehicle stemming from damage to the roads caused by abrasive snow plow parts.
Rubber is by far the best material option for snow plow parts due to its durable flexibility. Made of SBR and natural rubbers, these rubber cutting edges will help manage the snow around a residence or commercial areas more efficiently while acting as a barrier between the metal blade and the surface below to prevent damage. Its flexibility allows the cutting edges to bend according to the shape of the road or driveway for more efficient snow plowing. The rubber materials these snow plow parts of made of are able to handle the cold and frigid temperatures of winter without chipping or degrading. They are also outdoor friendly rubber plow blades which will not be affected by other harsh outdoor elements such as sunlight. Rubber-Cal understands that some surfaces may require a tougher material and offers rubber cutting edges in three different tensile strengths to ensure even the most abrasive plowing jobs will not affect the integrity of the snow plow parts and its efficiency.
